FACIALS:

How often should I get facials?
Once monthly facials are recommended to help aid in the cell turn over process which happens approximately every 30 days. As we age, this cell turn over process slows down, contributing to dull sallow looking skin, fine lines, wrinkles, blackheads, congestion, and coarsely textured skin. Monthly facials assist your body in doing more efficiently what it is"supposed" to do on its own.

What can I expect during a facial treatment?
When you arrive, you will be asked to fill out a consultation form. You may view, print, and fill out a facial consultation card ahead of time directly below. Most facials consist of a double cleanse with steam, exfoliation, extractions with a skin analysis, facial and upper body massage, facial mask, and hydration. Depending on the facial and your skincare history, the exfoliation performed will vary. Different facial "add-ons" can be added to your treatment for a small additional fee. All facials are uniquely customized to target your specific skincare needs. Please see the Menu for more information on these add-ons and specific facials offered.
Will my skin be red or irritated after my facial?
Slight redness is normal after a facial, especially if you've received any sort of chemical exfoliant such as a glycolic or a alpha hydroxy acid, or received a large amount of extractions. Slight irritation may be experienced during these instances, however it should not continue after your facial treatment has been completed. Certain skin types, including those who tend to be more sensitive, may be prone to experiencing more redness post treatment.

Which facial is right for me?
Please view my Menu of Services to read a full description of all the facial and specialized add-on treatments available. Still not sure? By filling out a Facial Consultation card prior to your treatment, the most beneficial facial can be chosen and customized specifically for you and your particular skincare needs.

What is a "series" of facials and why is it recommended?
A series of facials is the best way to jump start your skincare maintenance, especially if you're looking for positive results, fast! Facial series are generally offered in a series of six, performed once a week for six weeks, and are most effective when performed using a chemical exfoliant such as a glycolic or a lactic acid. (The exfoliant used will be determined based on your skincare history.) Payment is paid in full after the first treatment of the series. Please see my menu for more pricing information.

Can I receive a facial waxing such as an eyebrow or lip wax on the same day as my facial?
Yes! Waxing is always done first, prior to your facial, for the up most comfort and safety of your skin. Any areas waxed will be carefully avoided during your facial exfoliation so as not to further irritate the skin.

Do men get facials too?
Absolutely! Facials are very beneficial for men too, and can help reduce skin sensitivity from shaving as well as other concerns from lack of proper at home skincare. If you do suffer from sensitivity after shaving, it is recommended that you do not shave immediately before your facial, as this can lead to further irritation.

MICRODERMABRASION:

What is a microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a quick and convenient procedure that is very popular with patients who have early signs of aging, sun exposure, and other facial imperfections. Microdermabrasion is a closed vacuum system that delivers aluminum oxide crystals to the skin to aggressively exfoliate away the dull layer of dead skin, smooth and re-texturize the skin, and leave it soft and glowing. A vacuum then suctions away the exfoliated cells and crystals from your skin’s surface.

Is microdermabrasion safe?
Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types and colors.

Why should I consider a microdermabrasion?
A: We work with you to achieve your skincare goals. We usually recommend Microdermabrasion for the following concerns:• Dull, oily or leathery skin texture• Minimizing enlarged pores• Exfoliating and suctioning clogged pores in acne cases• Polishing and reducing fine lines• Acne scarring• Pigment Issues• Enhancing penetration of therapeutic remedies• Hyperpigmentation• Minimizing blemishes• Elimination of white and black heads• Skin Dryness

Will Microdermabrasion hurt?
No. Your skin may feel a little warm and appear a little pink immediately following your treatment, but this is very temporary. You should tell your esthetician immediately if your microdermabrasion treatment is too uncomfortable; they can adjust the settings if it is too strong for you.

Can I combine a microdermabrasion with another procedure?
Yes. Microdermabrasion is the perfect complement to other procedures including our pampering facials.

CHEMICAL PEELS:

What are chemical peels used for?

A chemical peel is a treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough or peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Thus the term chemical peel is derived. Chemical peels are used for the treatment of photoaging (from sun damage), wrinkles, scarring, acne and discoloration (including melasma, freckles, and age spots).

How are chemical peels performed?

At the time of treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent that removes excess oils, and the eyes and hair are protected. One or more chemical solutions –  such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or lactic acid; trichloroacetic acid (TCA); or carbolic acid (phenol) – are used. These produce a controlled wound, enabling new, refreshed skin to appear. Most patients experience a warm to somewhat hot sensation which lasts about five to ten minutes.

What will my skin feel like after a chemical peel?

Superficial peeling usually involves redness, followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. It is important to avoid overexposure to the sun after a chemical peel since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to complications. The state of your skin after a peel depends on what kind of peel you had. The superficial peels have limited effects, the medium peels may cause some redness.

How many peels will I need?

Receiving a series of chemical exfoliation treatments will yield the best results. Our medical estheticians will guide you through a skin care program that consists of treatments and skin care products that are suitable for your specific needs. The superficial peels are usually done several times over the course of several months. The deeper peels usually only need to be performed once to achieve the desired effect.

How long do the results last?

With good sun protection, results can last months or years, depending on the depth of the peel. Generally, the deeper peels have a more long lasting effect.

Post Chemical Peel

• Do wash twice a day with a gentle cleanser and liberally apply a bland moisturizer after cleansing and throughout the day as needed to prevent dryness and formation of crust (Aquaphor, Cetaphil, CeraVe).

• Do not vigorously rub the skin and do not pick at the flaking skin as this may cause scarring.

• Sun protection is critical. You should not have prolonged sun exposure for a week; wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30. This includes driving to work. Do not use a tanning bed

•Avoid laser treatments, waxing, the use of depilatories, or microdermabrasion for a week.

• Do wait 7 days before resuming the use of Retin-a (tretinoin), Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Ziana, Veltin, Atralin, glycolic acids or any other exfoliating agents such as a Clarisonic Brush.

• Avoid swimming, sauna, or whirlpool use for at least 7 days after the peel.

• If you were instructed to take an antiviral medication, do complete the prescribed course.

• Consider scheduling a complimentary “Hydration Appointment” around day 4 or 5 if desired, but this is not mandatory.

• The procedure may cause redness, crusting, dryness, skin sensitivity, itching, and peeling of the site which could last for up to a week. In the days after the peel, the skin may feel and look tight, with parchment-paper like changes or darkening. These are expected reactions.

We want you to have an outstanding result. If you have any questions or unexpected concerns, please call the office for assistance.

Pre-Chemical Peel

. Discontinue use of Retin-A, Retinol, AHA's and BHA's.

. Do not wax, have prolonged sun exposure or exfoliate three days prior to your peel.

Spray Tanning:

What is a Sunless Airbrush Tan?

Sunless spray tanning is the spray/mist application of sunless tanning solution to desired areas of your body.  When applied, DHA (the active ingredient in sunless tanning solution) reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden brown color.  Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours.  The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun.

Will a spray tan turn me orange?

No. Our all-organic solution and professional grade DHA solution will create a natural bronze.

How long does a spray tan last?

The tan lasts approximately 10-14 days (even longer for some), depending on a person's activities, aftercare and condition of skin. The proper method of exfoliation prior to your spray tan application is the most important factor relating to your spray tan longevity. With follow up applications, a person can maintain the tan indefinitely.

How is the spray tan applied?

Your airbrush tan will be applied through an airbrush gun by hand, by me. You'll be taken to a private room where we will discuss how light or dark you want to be, what areas you want tanned and what areas you may want avoided. You'll be asked to undress to your comfort level. This can range anywhere from completely undressed or you may wear a bra and underwear or bring a bathing suit. Whatever you are comfortable doing is what will be done. You'll be asked to apply barrier cream to the bottoms of your feet, palms of your hands, and cuticles. The airbrush solution will be applied 2-3 times and you'll be left to air dry for 15 or so minutes. I will check in about every 5 minutes to make sure you are happy with how the tan is developing and to touch up any areas before you leave.

How do I care for my tan?

The Night Before Your Tan

  • Please shave or wax your legs the night before your tan.

  • Moisturize really well before bed.

  • Exfoliate THOROUGHLY as well. This will remove dead skin and provide a new, smooth surface for your tan. Exfoliating helps to promote even coverage and lengthens the duration of the tan.

The Day Of Your Tan

  • Do not use any make-up, moisturizer, lotion, perfume or deodorant before your application. This can interfere with the color development and result in an uneven application.

  • It is recommended that you wear dark, loose fitting clothing. Solution washes out of most clothing very easily but tends to stain nylon and Lycra materials; therefore, dark colored underwear is recommended.

Aftercare

  • Let your tan set for at least 7-8 hours (overnight if possible) before showering or taking a bath. This allows your tan to develop.

  • Avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session in order to allow the tan to develop properly on your feet.

  • Avoid applying moisturizers or deodorants.

  • Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 6 hours. This includes tighter-fitting jeans, bras, spandex, tight blouses and shoes/socks.

  • All swimming, showering and vigorous exercise must be avoided for 6-8 hours as sweating can inhibit the development of your tan.

  • Do not shave for 12 hours after your treatment.

  • Beware wearing long boots after tanning as these can make your tan patchy on your legs.

Remember:

When you take a shower or a bath you will probably see some color wash off. Don’t worry. This is quite normal as it is only the color guide that the spray tan technician uses when the tan is applied. You will be left with a gorgeous tan.

  • Avoid long hot baths and showers as these speed up exfoliation.

  • Pat your skin dry after a bath or shower. Rubbing your skin may rub off your tan.
